Metal Stud Framing, step by step

Layout
Walls, openings and elevations are snapped out from the architectural and structural drawings before any track goes down.

Track
Top and bottom track is anchored to the slab and the structure above, following the fire- and sound-rating details on the plans.
- 03
Studs
Studs are set at the spacing and gauge the drawings call for, plumbed, and screwed off; openings get headers, jambs and kickers.
- 04
Backing & inspection
Blocking and backing go in for everything that hangs on the wall, then the framing is ready for the inspector and for insulation and board.

What is metal stud framing?
Metal stud framing builds walls, ceilings and soffits from light-gauge galvanized steel studs and track instead of wood. It is non-combustible, stays straight, and is the standard system for interior walls in commercial buildings. Do you frame residential projects with metal studs, or only commercial?
Both. Our framing solutions cover residential, commercial and industrial projects, and our experience includes residential tract homes, high-end custom homes and multi-family buildings as well as commercial retail, restaurant, medical and industrial work.
What stud gauge and spacing do you use?
Whatever the structural drawings specify. Gauge, spacing, bracing and connection details are set by the engineer for each wall type; we build to those details and to the rating required for the assembly.
Can you frame for hospital (OSHPD) or school (DSA) projects?
Our experience includes OSHPD medical and DSA school district work, which are the two most inspection-heavy project types in California. Tell us the agency when you request an estimate.
Do you also hang and finish the drywall on the walls you frame?
