02 // How the work goes
Acoustical Ceilings, step by step
- 01
Layout & elevation
The ceiling grid is laid out so cut tiles land where the drawings want them, and the finished elevation is set from the benchmarks.
- 02
Wires & main runners
Hanger wires are shot to the deck and main runners are hung and leveled.
- 03
Cross tees & bracing
Cross tees complete the grid, and seismic bracing is added per the code and the project details.
- 04
Tile
After the above-ceiling inspection, tiles are dropped in and the grid is cleaned and checked.
The sequence above describes how this trade is normally performed; the details on your project follow its drawings and specifications.

04 // Questions we get
Acoustical Ceilings FAQ
What is an acoustical ceiling?
An acoustical ceiling is a suspended metal grid with sound-absorbing tiles laid into it. It hides ductwork and wiring, gives easy access above the ceiling, and improves sound control and aesthetics for offices, schools and commercial spaces.
Where are acoustical ceilings used?
Offices, schools, medical buildings, retail and other commercial spaces. Future Drywall Corp installs custom acoustic ceiling systems for those settings.
Does an acoustical ceiling in California need seismic bracing?
Yes. Suspended ceilings in California are installed with seismic bracing and hanger details set by the building code and the project engineer, and the installation is inspected before tiles go in.
Can the tiles be replaced later?
Yes. Lay-in tiles lift out individually, which is one of the reasons the system is popular in commercial buildings.
